It’s easy to plop your kids down in front of the CannonSatellite.com children’s channels when the weather gets cold but how about adding in some reading, too? If your kids are more technologically inclined than they are to read, here are a few suggestions for getting a book in their hands.
Find the Right Book: Pick something related to their favorite show, for example, and watch them become more interested. Particularly a book that has a TV plotline pace can help your kids learn to enjoy reading.
Make it a Family Affair: Turn off the TV at least two nights a week and institute family reading time. Not only will it encourage your kids to read more but you’ll feel yourself growing as you make more time for reading, too!
Read to Them: If your kids truly hate to read, start off slow by reading TO them. Pick a book that’s got chapters that leave the reader hanging so they’ll want more and try to make it a nightly event, just before bed. It’s great quality time with your kids, too.
